Carnegie Mellon's attempt at a privacy policy. The headings detail what the privacy policy includes at a glance.
Several sites under the Carnegie Mellon server have privacy policies, including sites under cs.cmu.edu, the library sites, the ITsqc website, and others.
The purpose of the CMU web site is to present information. No cookies are even set when a user enters the web site. No personal information is collected, nor retained.
There are links to different departments, and pertaining to different types of users, as well as a search form and current university news link. There are the user sites, i.e. www.andrew.cmu.edu, in which students can have personal web pages. There is housing, administrative sites and student information sites in which students can manage student accounts online. The administrative and student information sites such as the HUB and SIO are managed by specific departments in CMU rather than the general public.
Each type of site, that pertains to a different type of user, should have its own privacy policy, and each of the departments that deal with those users should be responsible for the policies and their execution.
